Father of the Bride, reboot, Andy Garcia

It was revealed last year that Warner Bros. and Plan B were developing a reboot of Father of the Bride centered around a Latinx family, and it has now been announced that Andy Garcia is slated to star in the film.

The Father of the Bride reboot will be more of a romantic comedy that the previous films and will tell the story of "a father coming to grips with his daughter's upcoming wedding through the prisim of multiple relationships within a big, sprawling Cuban-American family." Deadline's sources claim that this film will be more like the original film starring Spencer Tracy rather than the Steve Martin films. In a statement, Andy Garcia said:

I’m very excited to join The Father of the Bride, a beloved film that has brought so much joy to so many over the years and to represent my Cuban culture and heritage in this story. I commend Warner Brothers for their foresight and celebrate this opportunity they have created. I am looking forward to my collaboration with our talented director Gaz Alazraki and producers Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner from Plan B.

Matt Lopez is penning the script for the Father of the Bride reboot which will be directed by Gaz Alazraki. The Steve Martin films, which I imagine are the ones most people are familiar with, found Martin starring as George Banks, a proud father who finds himself reluctant to let go of his oldest daughter when she announces that she's getting married. The sequel found Banks not only dealing with the pregnancy of his daughter, but also the unexpected pregnancy of his wife. A third installment has always been rumoured, but the closest we got was a short film made for charity last summer.
