Fear directors announced

Well, we’re getting closer to FEAR ITSELF, the NBC anthology series that is basically a watered-down MASTERS OF HORROR, coming from producers Mick Garris, Andrew Deane, and Keith Addis. Bloody Disgusting has uncovered the first SEVEN directors participating in the hour-long horror series:

Stuart Gordon (RE-ANIMATOR)

Brad Anderson (SESSION 9)

John Carpenter (HALLOWEEN)

Ernest Dickerson (BONES)

Mary Harron (AMERICAN PSYCHO)

Ronny Yu (BRIDE OF CHUCKY)

Breck Eisner (SAHARA)

The first four aren’t major surprises, as they all particiapted in MASTERS OF HORROR over its two year run (it should also be noted that Tobe Hooper and Greg Nicotero have been rumored contributors as well). Then you’ve got the next three, who provoke mixed feelings. Mary Harron’s an interesting choice, but Ronny Yu? Yes, he’s directed FREDDY VS. JASON and BRIDE OF CHUCKY – but he’s never directed anything scary. Eisner was just announced as the director of THE CRAZIES remake (coincidentally, Brad Anderson was in line to helm it originally), but he’s only really got SAHARA to his credit. He was at one time prepping a CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON remake – someone is apparently convinced he can scare an audience.

Of course, I’ll still be watching every episode… It will be interesting to see how this plays. Anthology really hasn’t worked on broadcast t.v. in quite a while, and NBC never takes long to ax a show that isn’t doing well. We’ll find out later this year.
