Feig, Lively, and Kendrick team for thriller A Simple Favor

When director Paul Feig was starting to put together his GHOSTBUSTERS reboot, he said that the movie was going to be "really scary". That's not quite how it panned out, although the film certainly seemed to horrify some viewers in a way he never intended (and original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd seems to have been horrified by the reboot's massive budget). But now that Feig has done some work with supernatural creatures, the director – who has worked almost entirely in the comedy genre, with a couple stopovers in drama land – is prepared to shake things up a bit and do something different. He has signed on to direct a murder mystery thriller called A SIMPLE FAVOR.

Based on the novel by Darcey Bell, A SIMPLE FAVOR has been written by Jessica Sharzer and tells the story of

a mommy blogger whose best friend suddenly disappears from their small town.

Feig will also be producing the film with his producing partner Jessie Henderson, under the banner of their company FeigCo.

The genre is new for Feig, but the project will still allow him to work with several female collaborators, as he has said he likes – and as he proved by making all of his Ghostbusters female.

Actresses Blake Lively (pictured above) and Anna Kendrick (below) are currently in talks to star in A SIMPLE FAVOR.

Filming is expected to begin in Toronto this August.
