I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Luc Besson has a pretty good idea of what he’s doing. The man has been nailing it year after year, whether it be sci-fi flicks like THE FIFTH ELEMENT or badass revenge projects like LEON: THE PROFESSIONAL, LA FEMME NIKITA and TAKEN… whether it be in a writing or directing capacity the man knows what we want! So it’s with that excitement that I come here today to tell you about Besson’s next project!

Well potentially his next project… You see the guys over at ComingSoon discovered an interview Besson did with French site Fantasy where he talks a bit about a project he’s working on. So what did Besson say in the interview? Well basically the filmmaker is planning an epic sci-fi flick that’ll be ten times bigger than THE FIFTH ELEMENT. He’s designing the creatures for the film now with plans to start pre-production sometime next year followed by filming in 2012/2013 with a release a year later. Somebody’s feeling pretty ambitious, now aren’t we?

But seriously folks, how can you not put your money behind Besson at this point? Especially when the director seems so excited about the project! Our brothers-in-arms over at JoBlo.com got a bit more of the translation down:

“When I did THE FIFTH ELEMENT, I already had the technological tools that were a little outdated. With the advent of digital technology, it is amazing what you can do. One can imagine anything, there will always technicians to follow you in your delusion.”

Apparently Besson is tagging the technology behind AVATAR as inspriation for this new project. Well sh*t, that’s fine with me! Just give us something sick Luc! We’ll be keeping a keen eye on this one so as soon as more news breaks we’ll be sure to pass the good word along to all of you!
