Captain America: Civil War Chris Evans cut battle scene

If you haven't yet been to see CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, be warned that there will be a few minor spoilers below. The recently released Marvel epic has been performing exceptionally well both commercially and critically with one of the main draws being the great superhero on superhero battles spread throughout the film, but according to CIVIL WAR screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, there was one battle we never got to see.

While speaking with Fandango, Markus and McFeely said that "there was a good fight between Captain America and Black Widow that we lost mainly due to time." The fight never made it to the final cut of CIVIL WAR because the screenwriters reasoned that they had already addressed the tensions between Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), but also because a similar fight between Black Widow and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) was featured in the film.

[Cap and Black Widow] clearly have a deep relationship even though they're clearly on opposite sides, and you never know how many times you need to hit that over the course of the movie. I think it works without this fight, but we certainly didn't know if it would.

As to who won that cutting room floor battle, Stephen McFeely said "I guess Cap did, let's just say he got away in the moment, how about that?" Our own JimmyO conducted his own interview with the CIVIL WAR screenwriters recently, which goes into INFINITY WAR, Spider-Man, and Marvel's villain problem. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is currently playing in theaters, so be sure to check out both Paul Shirey and Eric Walkuski's CIVIL WAR reviews and let us know what you thought of the film!
