First look at Liam Hemsworth & Josh Hutcherson as ‘Peeta & Gale’ in Hunger Games

One flick I don’t see myself getting excited for is Gary Ross’ THE HUNGER GAMES. From the looks of it this thing is going to be pretty huge… but it just hasn’t hooked on with me, you know? It feels like it’s marketing itself to the whole TWILIGHT SAGA crowd and it doesn’t feel very genre-friendly, know what I mean? Regardless it seems anything coming from this flick is pretty big news so it’s my sworn duty to bring you any and all updates on this shite.

And that continues today with our first look at Josh Hutcherson as ‘Peeta’ and Liam Hemsworth as ‘Gale’ courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. You see EW have debuted their newest issue, which finds Hemsworth and Hutcherson plastered onto the cover in full HUNGER GAMES gear. Now the shot isn’t really that exciting at all but you can go ahead and scroll down below for a look at it anyway.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Along with Hutcherson and Hemsworth THE HUNGER GAMES is also set to star Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley and Donald Sutherland. It’s set to hit theaters everywhere on March 23, 2012 so expect a lot more HUNGER GAMES updates in the coming months.
