Dreamworks’ Animation is gearing up for its next summer release, which is coming in the form of TURBO, starring Ryan Reynolds, about a snail who miraculously gains the gift of super-speed.  Today, we have a teaser trailer and poster for the pic, which lives up to the tease aspect.  It’s too soon to call, but the premise has promise.  Reynolds does comedy well and I think his work in both TURBO and THE CROODS, another Dreamworks animation pic, will allow him to play to his humor card strengths.

Go the distance:

Here’s the synopsis:

From the makers of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, Turbo is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.

Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Michelle Rodriguez, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg, and Samuel L. Jackson. Turbo hits the blacktop on July 19, 2013.
