THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR has dropped a new clip, and though it doesn't feature any high octane action, it shows off Frank Grillo's depth as a badass. He might be able to shoot his way through a crowd of violent political satirists, but he also has range, you know! Check out the clip below, where he explains his backstory to Elizabeth Mitchell (who I just remembered is Juliet from Lost – she's looking great!).

Written and directed by THE PURGE creator James DeMonaco, ELECTION YEAR has the following synopsis:

It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night.  Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent.  But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn… or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

ELECTION YEAR also stars Mykelti Williamson, Raymond J. Barry, and Edwin Hodge.

Universal will be releasing the Blumhouse/Platinum Dunes production into theatres on July 1st.
