Rising star Frank Grillo has taken the lead in writer/director James DeMonaco‘s THE PURGE 2, which is set to go into production shortly. DeMonaco is once again at the helm of the sequel, which follows on the massive success of this year’s THE PURGE, which starred Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey and made a worldwide cume of $90 million from a $3 million budget. So, yeah, not rocket science in seeing there would be a sequel there.

Grillo has been slowly on the rise with some outstanding performances in both Joe Carnahan‘s THE GREY and Gavin O’Connor‘s WARRIOR (as well as last month’s HOMEFRONT), although the role that will most likely push him over the top is that of Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in the upcoming sequel CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. With THE PURGE 2 following just two months after the Marvel sequel’s release I think it’s a safe bet that Grillo will be able to capitalize on Cap’s publicity and ride the wave to success with THE PURGE sequel. Any way you slice it, you’re gettin’ more Grillo in 2014.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER opens on April 04, 2014 and THE PURGE 2 is set for release on June 20, 2014
