Friday the 13th: The Game is coming to Nintendo Switch

Even though the FRIDAY THE 13TH movies are my favorite horror franchise, I hadn't purchased Gun Media's Friday the 13th: The Game until it went on sale for a low price at the end of October – by which time the ongoing rights lawsuit between FRIDAY THE 13TH director/producer Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller had already brought the development of new content for the game to an end. Regardless of whether or not new stuff will ever be added in there, I've been making up for lost time playing the PC version of Friday the 13th: The Game over the last several months, racking up hundreds of hours of gameplay, finding myself on the run from Jason Voorhees again and again. And occasionally getting other players to run from me when I play as Jason.

Soon another batch of gamers will be getting their chance to join in on the fun, as Gun Media has announced that the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch this spring.

Friday the 13th: The Game Ultimate Slasher Switch Edition will include

all released content and paid DLC, including every Jason Kill Pack, both Counselor Clothing Packs, and the Emote Party Pack. It does not the include Kickstarter backer exclusive "Savini Jason" character or the backer exclusive clothing pack.

In the announcement, Gun Media's Director of Communications Daniel Nixon had this to say:

We're happy to be bringing 'Friday the 13th: The Game' to the Nintendo Switch with the help of our partners at Black Tower and Nighthawk. The Nintendo Switch offers a unique experience, in both social settings and on the go, that we feel work very well with 'Friday the 13th: The Game'."

Here's some information on the game:

Friday the 13th: The Game is a third-person horror, survival game where players take on the role of a teen counselor, or for the first time ever, Jason Voorhees. You and six other unlucky souls will do everything possible to escape and survive while the most well-known killer in the world tracks you down and brutally slaughters you. Friday the 13th: The Game will strive to give every single player the tools to survive, escape or even try to take down the man who cannot be killed. Each and every gameplay session will give you an entirely new chance to prove if you have what it takes not only to survive, but to best the most prolific killer in cinema history, a slasher with more kills than any of his rivals!

Meanwhile, Jason will be given an array of abilities to track, hunt and kill his prey. Stalk from the shadows, scare your targets and kill them when the time is right in as brutal a fashion as you can imagine. Take control of the legendary killer that is Jason Voorhees and terrify those unfortunate enough to cross your path!

The versions of Jason seen in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, PART III, THE FINAL CHAPTER, JASON LIVES, THE NEW BLOOD, JASON TAKES MANHATTAN, and JASON GOES TO HELL are all playable in the game, along with Roy from A NEW BEGINNING and that purple and blue Jason from the original NES game. Some lucky players also got their hands on a new, hellish Jason that was designed by Tom Savini.

Four-time Jason Kane Hodder provided the motion capture performance for the character in the game. Collectible audio recordings scripted by JASON LIVES writer/director Tom McLaughlin and HATCHET's Adam Green are hidden throughout the game's maps. JASON LIVES star Thom Mathews reprises the role of Tommy Jarvis in the game, with Kristina Klebe as one of the counselors, Larry Zerner as his PART III character Shelly, and Jen Burton as Pamela Voorhees.

Longtime franchise composer Harry Manfredini provided the music for the game, and it's very creepy to hear that music when you're making your way through a dark, woodsy location and trying to avoid Jason.

Gamers who have a Nintendo Switch are in for a treat with this one.
