If you’re looking for your daily dose of disturbing media, welcome, we’ve got something to show you. A trailer for Hulu‘s upcoming series, Furious, is here, and my skin is already crawling. Furious stars Shameless alum Emmy Rossum as Alice Black, an FBI agent on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer. Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur.
Who are the creative forces behind Furious?
Loosely based on the 1987 movie Black Widow, Furious hails from the creator and executive producer Elizabeth Merriwether, with Rossum executive producing for Composition 8, along with Ronald Bass, Matt Olmstead, and Sam Hoffman. Brian Kirk executive-produced and directed episodes 101 and 102. 20th Television and Searchlight Television also produce the upcoming series.
In addition to Emmy Rossum, Lola Petticrew, Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, and Jake Lacy lead the cast.
What happens in today’s Furious trailer?
We rarely find films or series that focus on a female serial killer, so in that sense, Furious feels unique. Today’s trailer begins with heavy breathing, the nature of which we have no idea about. In my estimation, a gravely injured man is struggling to catch his breath. As he looks on in stunned exasperation, a woman taunts him by saying she enjoys his smile. Next, Rossum’s Alice Black investigates three murders and begins to notice a connection among them. It’s her first case, and she thinks she could have a serial killer on her hands. The worst part is that she’s not wrong, and as a pattern emerges, it’s up to Black and her partner to bring a mysterious, evasive killer to justice. Woof! The Furious trailer eventually gets rough as the killer begins bending her own rules to claim her next target. Alice is on her trail, but she’s got her own demons to slay while hunting for a shapeshifting woman with nothing to lose.
Furious premieres on July 27 with three episodes on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally. New episodes stream Mondays with the season finale on August 31.
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen Emmy Rossum do her thing, and Furious looks intense in ways I could see myself enjoying. I’ll check this one out for sure. I’ve a feeling my wife will love it.
