PSA: FX’s “violent & disturbing” Christmas Carol is rated TV-MA

Charles Dickens’ iconic ghost story A CHRISTMAS CAROL recently got the remake treatment once again from Tom Hardy & Steven Knight with a FULL HORROR re-telling starring Guy Pearce and Andy Serkis. It aired last week and today we wanted to make sure you guys with little ones at home (like me) know good and well that this new iteration is super dark times. In fact, it sports a TV-MA rating.

More specifically, it's been described as "violent and disturbing, and features some nudity." Let alone a buncha uses of the word "fuck." Personally, I haven't had the pleasure of sitting down and peeping the new take yet. But I have been hearing fellow parents voicing their concerns (RE: bitching) about the new version's content corrupting their kids. So I figured as a dad, I'd pass along the "warning."

You can check out the trailer below – which features a glimpse at the gritty version to come – including f-bombs. The FX original series is described as "a spine-tingling immersion into Ebenezer Scrooge’s dark night of the soul." And for the one… wait for it… Scrooge who isn't familiar with the age-old tale of semi-terror, the plot goes a little something like this:

Though London awaits the joyful arrival of Christmas, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge thinks it's all humbug, berating his faithful clerk and cheerful nephew for their view. Later, Scrooge encounters the ghost of his late business partner, who warns that three spirits will visit him this night. The ghosts take Scrooge on a journey through his past, present, and future in the hope of transforming his bitterness.

All three episodes of this dark reimagining of the classic tale are directed by Nick Murphy and it's produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free and Tom Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker. Nick Murphy directs all three episodes. It hit FX here in the states back on December 19, 2020.
