The first adorable teaser trailer for Pixar’s Gatto suggests that cat interrogation tactics could use a little work

With some people saying Toy Story 5 is Pixar‘s best movie in several years, it’s impossible not to get excited about the studio’s upcoming animated feature, Gatto. I love animals in general, but I’m a cat dad first and foremost. My cat, Loki, brings me so much joy every day. She’s a talkative sweetheart whose affection is selective, but when she’s in the mood, she lays it on thick. When I watched 2024’s Flow, she was mesmerized and watched the entire film at my side while perched on her cat tower next to the couch. I’m curious about her reaction to Disney and Pixar’s new teaser trailer for Gatto. I’ll likely find out later today.

Enrico Casarosa, who directed Pixar’s underappreciated 2021 animated feature Luca, directs Gatto, starring Mark Ruffalo as Nero and Laurence Fishburne as Rocco. The story follows a black cat named Nero. Indebted to a feline mob boss, Nero finds himself forced to forge an unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose.

What happens in today’s Gatto teaser trailer?

In today’s Gatto teaser trailer, we visit a rough part of town in Venice, Italy, where a clowder of cats on a rooftop, their battle scars clearly visible, and one of them is flicking their claw like a switchblade. They’re guarding a shed where an orange cat is bound in rope and getting interrogated by Nero, an adorable black bat with green eyes, and Rocco, a chonky grey-haired cat with wandering brown eyes. Rocco wants to know where the orange cat has put his stash of tuna. Meanwhile, Nero becomes hypnotized by a string attached to a lightbulb. Unable to resist the call of the swaying metal beads, Nero bats at the string, then Rocco gives it a swish. Before long, all three cats are wrestling for control of the string, proving that cat interrogation tactics could use some work.

What’s Gatto about?

Here’s the official synopsis for Gatto, courtesy of Disney and Pixar:

“After years of maneuvering the canal-ridden, superstitious city of Venice, Italy, Nero begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives. Indebted to Rocco, the local feline mob boss, Nero finds himself in a quandary and is forced to forge a truly unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose—unless Venice gets the better of him first.”
