The Boys spinoff Gen V canceled after 2 seasons while Vought Rising gets a 2027 launch

Is the era of The Boys on Prime Video winding down? It’s unclear, but today’s news points to a dramatic shift in priorities for the ultra-violent superhero series’ spinoff, Gen V, which is getting canceled after two seasons. According to reports, Gen V will not return for a third season. The news comes six months after the sophomore season of the drama at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting ended. While this news could come as a shock to fans, stars of the series could have had a heads-up, considering that Asa Germann, who stars in Gen V, recently booked a series regular role on Paramount+’s Frisco King.

Vought Rising is Still Happening

In addition to Gen V coming to an end, The Boys will end its strong run on Prime Video after five seasons on May 20. Furthermore, the other Boys spinoff, Vought Rising, is still moving forward and now has a 2027 launch date.

Characters From Gen V Are Still Hanging Around

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” said Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg, executive producers of the Vought Cinematic Universe. “You’ll see them again.”

Meanwhile, the other, other The Boys spinoff, The Boys: Mexico, is still in active development.

Thoughts About Gen V Season 2

Our resident TV reviewer, Alex Maidy, enjoyed Gen V Season 2 a great deal, saying in his review, Gen V continues to develop into a series all its own, extending the world of The Boys without being indebted. Gen V incorporates both major plot elements from both series while also moving forward with exploring the same themes. Chance Perdomo’s character would undoubtedly be a significant part of the original season two map. Still, the showrunners, writers, and cast have all done a beautiful job of honoring the actor and his character without deviating from the momentum of this story. I enjoyed season two more than the first and possibly a bit more than the last few seasons of The Boys. While The Boys may be ending, there is a robust case to keep Gen V going in one way or another for many seasons. Once you reach the finale, Gen V does something that will have fans of both shows on the edge of their seats until the season premiere of The Boys hits the airwaves.”

While characters from Gen V will appear in other series, it’s a shame that the spinoff is ending while fans were still enjoying it. Thankfully, The Boys still shows signs of life, and it sounds like at least two more projects remain on the way. Are you upset about Gen V coming to an end?
