Get Out’s alternate ending featured a killer Twilight Zone-style twist

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As most of you out there can assume, or you straight up know by this point, I am a big fan of writer-director Jordan Peele's horror-thriller GET OUT. Isn't (mostly) everyone? It is with this in mind I read every Peele interview I can find, and today I ran across something very interesting. It turns out in a recent interview with THR, Peele revealed the original scripted-ending to the film, which I'm thinking I like a bit more than the ending we eventually got. It's very TWILIGHT ZONE.

Jordan Peele:

I had several different ones [endings]. There was a while where it was more of a gated community, and we get to Chris breaking out, but right before he breaks out he meets some sort of final test that we don’t know how it ends. We cut to Rod a couple months later, breaking into the gated community, going down the main street and seeing Chris just looking into the reflection of a window. And he goes: ‘Chris, I've been looking for you. Are you OK?’ And Chris turns to him and goes, ‘I assure you, I don’t know who you’re talking about.’

Damn! While this new ending isn't quite as dark as the previous ending that Peele went so far as to actually shoot which included Chris going to jail at the end, this one is still a big downer of an ending. But again, very reminiscent of THE TWILIGHT ZONE. So there you go. What do you think of Jordan Peele's original ending for GET OUT? Do you think it's even better than the current ending? Let us know below!

GET OUT synopsis:

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could never have imagined.

GET OUT is written & directed by Jordan Peele and produced by Jason Blum. The horror film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, and Catherine Keener. Buy the film on Blu-ray HERE.
