It did not take long after the viral launch this morning that we got our first look at footage from PACIFIC RIM. While this is not a trailer by any means, this is definitely a teaser in the most literal sense of the word.

This viral video is a series of news broadcasts surrounding the first attacks by the PACIFIC RIM monsters, or Kaiju as they are called. The attack is centered in San Francisco and shows quick glimpses of destruction, the legs of the creature, and the military attach to bring the beast down. While the images are intentionally hazy, you get a very good idea of the scope Guillermo Del Toro has been telling us the movie would have.

This footage is awesome. As a fan of CLOVERFIELD, I love that this viral campaign is kicking off with nothing more than flashes of what will be in store for us. I am anticipating full on monster versus robot insanity in the final product, but until I am watching the movie in the theater, I want nothing more than this. I hope the trailer doesn’t give away the creatures, either. Del Toro has the potential to give us something amazing here, and I cannot wait.

PACIFIC RIM, starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., and Rinko Kikuchi starts calming the seas on July 12, 2013.
