Getting to play Daredevil in Infinity War would be a dream says Charlie Cox

The films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may influence the direction of their television counterparts, but Marvel's television series have never really had the chance to cross back over to the feature-film realm, which is a shame, as there are some great characters played by some great actors who could easily make the jump to a big-screen Marvel film. Marvel and Netflix's first pairing, Daredevil, was a big success, and its star, Charlie Cox, recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of his character finally appearing alongside Captain America, Iron Man, and the rest of the Avengers in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things. So even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn't necessarily mean that I would appear in that film. I will pick a fight with the guy that they choose!

Even though both the Marvel film universe and the Marvel television universe are the same thing, there's a considerable difference behind the scenes. Last year a fairly major power shift went down at Marvel, with Marvel Studios and its president, Kevin Feige, now reporting directly to Disney studio chief Alan Horn instead of Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter. Marvel's TV division wasn't part of that shift however and thus still falls under Perlmutter's control. Even though they're technically all under the Marvel/Disney roof, this makes organizing crossovers all the more difficult. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR directors Anthony and Joe Russo spoke on just that very subject last year:

When we start to serialize the telling of stories it's difficult. You have to have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others. Then there is the possibility of a crossover, but it's more complicated. It is a smaller scale version of the problem that exists when remembering that Fox holds the rights to some of Marvel's most popular characters, as does Sony and others. As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible, Spider-Man became possible!

Despite the difficulties, I have a hard time believing that Marvel would ever recast Daredevil for the big-screen when they have Charlie Cox already doing such a great job. It's still too early to say for certain which Marvel characters will pop up in INFINITY WAR, but Joe and Anthony Russo have mentioned their desire to expand the story-lines of the secondary characters in the two part AVENGERS epic, and although that most likely means characters like Scarlett Witch, The Vision, War Machine, etc, I'd like to think that Charlie Cox's Daredevil could have a role to play as well. For his part, Cox says that he has not yet received a call to join up with The Avengers but added that it would be "the coolest thing ever" and "a dream."

Would you like to see Marvel's television characters crossover to the films in a bigger way, or are the films already overcrowded?

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART I will hit theaters on May 4, 2018 and will be concluded on May 3, 2019 with AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART II.
