The murder of Hannibal star Hugh Dancy’s great-grandmother is the subject of the true crime podcast Ghost Story, which is set to launch on October 23rd and will be available on Wondery+ and Amazon Music. Dancy takes part in the podcast, along with family members, ghost hunters, psychic mediums, and homicide detectives.

According to Variety, Ghost Story will tell us all about Dr. Naomi Dancy, who was found dead in 1937 after being shot twice in the face as she slept. A synopsis describes the show as a jaw-dropping tale of a haunting, which becomes a murder investigation, which leads to a family drama.

In addition to playing Will Graham on three seasons of Hannibal, Hugh Dancy has had roles in films and TV shows like David Copperfield, Black Hawk Down, King Arthur, Basic Instinct 2, Blood and Chocolate, The Jane Austen Book Club, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Our Idiot Brother, The Big C, Late Night, Homeland, The Good Fight, Downton Abbey: A New Era, and Law & Order.

Hugh Dancy’s brother-in-law Tristan Redman hosts the show, which is coming our way from Wondery and Audacy’s Pineapple Street Studios. In a strange coincidence, Redman grew up next door to the house in London where Dr. Dancy was killed and would often experience “weird things” in his teenage bedroom; he later discovers his home’s subsequent occupants were visited by the ghost of a faceless woman. Could these strange goings on be related to the murder next door?

Redman provided the following statement: “Journalists aren’t supposed to take ghosts seriously. But when you find out there might be one in your bedroom, and that it might be linked to a family murder: how could you not investigate? I’ve spent two years reporting this story and I’m excited for people to hear it. It’s about ghosts, it’s about a forgotten murder and it’s about how we deal with uncomfortable things from the past.

I don’t usually listen to true crime podcasts, but there are enough layers to Ghost Story that I might end up checking this one out.
