Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer builds the hype for November release

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Director Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a sequel to his father Ivan Reitman's films Ghostbusters (watch it HERE) and Ghostbusters II (watch that one HERE) is heading toward a November 11th theatrical release, and today a trailer has arrived online to give us a preview of its town-shaking ghostly activities and a healthy number of callbacks to the original Ghostbusters – including some quick glimpses at the appearance Annie Potts and Dan Aykroyd make in the film.

Scripted by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon as a family

with single mom Callie and her two kids, Trevor and Phoebe, who move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma only to discover that there’s something strange in the neighborhood. Unexplained quakes shake the town. There’s an old mine nearby that bears the name of Ivo Shandor, who built the Manhattan high-rise in the 1984 film that channeled the forces of evil.

Paul Rudd plays "a local teacher who’s been documenting the unexplained phenomena, befriending Callie and her kids, and helping make the connection between the current weirdness and the events of three decades before". Celeste O'Connor, Logan Kim, Bokeem Woodbine, Tracy Letts, Oliver Cooper, and original Ghostbusters stars Aykroyd, Potts, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver are also in the cast.

Ivan Reitman produced the new film, with Aykroyd executive producing alongside Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Michael Beugg, Aaron L. Gilbert, and Jason Cloth.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife seems like it's going to be a good time to me, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Jason Reitman and Kenan have continued the story that Ivan Reitman started telling with Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and the rest of the Ghostbusters cast nearly 40 years ago. Aykroyd, Murray, and Hudson are expected to strap on the proton packs again at some point in this movie, but that's a sight the promotional materials are wisely keeping from us so far.
