It was way back at the beginning of November that we first heard about George A. Romero’s latest film… known simply as ….OF THE DEAD for now.
Well it’s been over half a year and we still don’t know what the hell is going on with this one! Well I lied. We’ve actually seen stills, trailers, behind the scenes, and this synopsis: On a small island off North America’s coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet……..the islanders can’t bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those they once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters… …. they commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live ‘normal’ lives… with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero’s Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?
What? That’s pretty f*cking twisted. Looks like Romero is stepping well out of the box with this one… and I can’t wait! The guys over at Dread Central got their hands on the 30th Anniversary issue of Fangoria and saw that there’s a juicy new still for …OF THE DEAD gracing it’s pages. So being the good guys they are they went ahead and scanned the shot for us all to see! Check the gore-fest out above and just click through to see a bigger shot. Don’t you just love a good ol’ zombie ravaging? Doesn’t it make you feel all warm inside? I know I do!
As you can see the still is pretty cool and features some grade A gore. Let’s hope there’s more of that! Keep it here as we await any more updates for George A. Romero’s … OF THE DEAD. 20 bucks says that carries over as the final title for the film.
