There’s a lot of characters that come with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and the marketing thus far has focused on them. That’s about to change as Marvel has launched Galaxy Getaways, a new viral site that takes a look at some of the locations we’ll be seeing in the film. It’s very reminiscent of Star Tours (for you Star Wars fans) and the tongue-in-cheek humor from GUARDIANS crosses over in the best way. No need to take my word for it though, as you can check out the promo video showcased when you first enter the site.

I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m generally not into viral marketing all that much, but this is how it’s done right. You can see that they had a lot of fun throwing this all together. Not only do you get a street view of the locations (a la Google) with trivia about each planet, but several mini-games, including ‘I am Groot’, where you have to locate the creature (I couldn’t find him) and a quiz to see which Guardian you are most like. They even launch ships from whatever address you desire, which I thought was pretty cool. If you ask me, this is how viral marketing is done right, and you can check it out here.
