Hans Zimmer follows in the footsteps of Goyer and Nolan and joins Man of Steel

Hans Zimmer has thus far done some of the best work of his life when working with Christopher Nolan, and it certainly sounds like that trend will continue if the snippets we’ve heard from his work on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES are any indication.

But it looks to be that their collaboration will soon extend further than that, as Zimmer has now been tapped to score MAN OF STEEL.  This marks the first time that director Zach Snyder has not worked with composer Tyler Bates, and I for one say that’s a great step forward for MAN OF STEEL’s potential quality in and of itself.

On an ironic note, it was none too long ago that Zimmer spoke the following words in response to the rumor that he would be scoring MAN OF STEEL: “How can I say it: My heart belongs to Batman. I wouldn’t even know how to go and give voice to it. I haven’t thought about it… John Williams [is] the greatest living composer — full stop. And that happens to be one of his greatest themes. So no. And I’m not thinking of rewriting Beethoven’s ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So that’s unequivocally a no. I have never spoken with Zack Snyder.”

Was it misdirection? Did Zimmer have a change of heart and crack the theme? Perhaps a DVD special feature will tell us some day.  In the meantime, is there anyone you wish had taken the job instead of Zimmer, or does he fit the tone Snyder, Nolan, and Goyer have built so perfectly that nobody else could have done the job?
