Hell of a Summer: Finn Wolfhard, Billy Bryk are directing a horror comedy together

Last November, Stranger Things and Ghostbusters: Afterlife actor Finn Wolfhard revealed that he was planning to make his feature directorial debut with “a horror-comedy-slasher movie that takes place at a camp”. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Wolfhard and Billy Bryk, who also appeared in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, are teaming up to direct a horror comedy feature called Hell of a Summer… which certainly sounds like a fitting title for a slasher set at a camp.

Hell of a Summer plot details are being kept under wraps. All we know for sure at this point is that production is set to begin this month in Ontario, Canada, and Wolfhard and Bryk will be starring in the film alongside Fred Hechinger (the Fear Street trilogy).

30West is financing and executive producing Hell of a Summer, and will be handling worldwide rights sales. Hechinger is producing the film alongside Aggregate Films, Parts and Labor Production, Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, Drew Brennan, and Jay Van Hoy.

Wolfhard provided the following statement: “I am so excited to be co-directing my first feature film. I get the chance to work with an incredible cast and crew, and to work with a company like 30West and Aggregate is a real dream.

I love slasher movies and the ones set at camps have a special place in my heart (Friday the 13th is my favorite franchise, after all), so I’m really hoping that Hell of a Summer is the camp slasher Wolfhard mentioned and am looking forward to seeing what Wolfhard and Bryk do with it. As I’ve said before, I have my fingers crossed for something entertaining that’s in the range of The Final GirlsSleepaway Camp 2, and Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI.
