As a big fan of DRIVE, I am highly anticipating seeing Nicolas Winding Refn reteam with Ryan Gosling. Just watching the trailer for ONLY GOD FORGIVES makes me anticipate the film a hundred times more. Everything from the visual style to the music selection fits together perfectly. Gosling’s role looks to be a lot more verbal in this film than it did in DRIVE, but still moody and atmospheric.

With the news that ONLY GOD FORGIVES will be in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, we have the French poster for the movie along with eleven new images from the crime drama. Obviously Ryan Gosling takes center stage, but I have a feeling that Kristin Scott Thomas is going to get a lot of awards recognition for her role in the movie. She often plays much more traditional roles and seeing her with the platinum blonde hair and busty clothing definitely plays differently than, say, THE ENGLISH PATIENT.

Here’s the synopsis:

Julian, a drug-smuggler thriving in Bangkok’s criminal underworld, sees his life get even more complicated when his mother compels him to find and kill whoever is responsible for his brother’s recent death.

ONLY GOD FORGIVES opens on July 19, 2013.
