Man, does this look good.

It’s crazy to think that the guy who directed two movies that I’m fond of GO and SWINGERS quickly moved on to a career in the action genre. Though I’d like to see him get back to films like those, I must say that EDGE OF TOMORROW has certainly won me over with this first trailer. It’s sci-fi, includes cast members like Emily Blunt, Jeremy Piven, Bill Paxton…oh, and Tom Cruise. That alone is worth the price of admission. Check it out for yourself.

“What I’m about to tell you sounds crazy but you have to listen to me.”

Synopsis:

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

The story is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s science fiction novel All You Need Is Kill which was the original title of the film. I actually liked that title over EDGE OF TOMORROW. Also, adding another book (there’s a manga version as well) to the reading list. Did anyone else notice the Portal-like narration? “This is not the end.” What a strong first trailer, and might I say Emily Blunt is a total badass.

EDGE OF TOMORROW hits theaters on June 6th, 2014.
