Hitman talks

Actually it’s not just HITMAN star Timothy
Olyphant talking about the film based on the game of the same name, it’s also
genre director Xavier Gens, and both of them have dropped a couple of great
tidbits about how the film may be. The interview was conducted by the folks over
at

and the interview on whole has started
to generate some interest, for me at least, in this film.

Olyphant was asked about the conveyance of
emotion in the film and he said “You have to do something,
even if the story doesn’t ask for emotion in a scene. In the movie “Le Samurai”
with Alain Delon for example, you can see how much can be done with very few
means. I oriented myself by that.”
LE SAMURAI is one of my
favorite films of all time, it inspired John Woo to become a filmmaker, and I
think it’s a perfect place to start getting inspiration for a film where the
main character is supposed to be devoid of emotion.

When it came to asking Gens about the film, the
interview got really interesting. After being asked as to whether or not he
would head in a direction that would make the film more suitable for the whole
family, Gens said “When I started working on this, the
studio asked me to make it so that it would get a PG-13 rating. I told them I
didn’t want to make another Resident Evil or Silent Hill. To make it fit the
game, there’d have to be more violence. After a lot of discussion I got through
with my stance. I wanted to do my own movie and not someone else’s.”
I
thought this was great to hear, as was his comment about the action in the
flick. He said “I wanted really true and dirty violence –
from splashing blood to broken arms.”

This flick is really starting to sound pretty
good. I don’t know whether or not Gens will actually carry any of this out, but
I think if he does, the film will be awesome to watch. To read the full

I know she’s not in the game but I’m sure Gens could find a place for her somewhere…
