We’re constantly hearing about THE HUNGER GAMES, news is going strong and this phenomenon is only at the very beginning.
The numbers for the film are looking very promising, the pre-release figures and polling are projecting an opening of around $75 million, but it could go as high as $150 million, more than the first TWILIGHT film! The film’s prediction is that it could pull in HARRY POTTER type of figures, and it is expected to break the record for the biggest all-time March release opening, which Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND currently holds.
The film has the slight advance of a limited IMAX run, and 3D ticket prices as well. How will the other end of March releases such as WRATH OF THE TITANS do against it? We’ll be finding out soon enough, THE HUNGER GAMES will be released March 23rd!
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
