Filming for NBC’s highly anticipated HANNIBAL series is currently underway, but that hasn’t stopped them from releasing some bad-ass key art featuring Hannibal Lecter himself, Mads Mikkelsen. The series is being developed by Bryan Fuller and will take place before the events of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and follows Lecter and FBI Agent Will Graham:

Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…

Mads Mikkelsen will portray the infamous cannibal and the casting couldn’t have been any better. He’s amazingly talented and under the radar — but most importantly — he’s creepy as shit. He will star alongside Hugh Dancy as Agent Will Graham and Laurence Fishburne who plays Agent Jack Crawford. Other notable cast members include Eddie Izzard, Gillian Anderson, Gina Torres, Lance Henriksen, Molly Shannon, Ellen Greene and Chelan Simmons.

NBC opted to skip out on the usual pilot episode process and has already ordered an entire first season series. They are certainly showing some confidence with their series and I don’t blame them. With that cast and the potential in a classic monster like Hannibal Lecter, there’s a lot to be confident about.
