Chucky is allowed to drop 8 to 10 F-bombs in each episode of Syfy series

Don Mancini, who has written every film in the CHILD'S PLAY franchise (except for the remake) and directed a few of them, has been developing a Chucky television series for a couple years, and it's inching closer and closer to reality. The show is set up at Syfy, and earlier this month a teaser trailer for it arrived online. (That's embedded above.) Then it was officially confirmed that Brad Dourif will once again be providing the voice of Chucky. We've known for a while that Chucky will still be able to swear on the show, executive producer Nick Antosca assured fans a year and a half ago that Chucky will be able to say "F*ck" on Syfy, but now Mancini has revealed that Syfy is allowing them to use the word several times in each episode.

Appearing with Antosca on Comic-Con@Home's Scary Good TV Showrunners panel, Mancini said: 

When Nick and I set up Chucky at Syfy, one of the first things we had to make sure of was that Chucky could drop his F-bombs, because it's such an intrinsic part of his character, it would just seem wrong if he couldn't… Fortunately, before we signed on the dotted line, they conformed, yes, he can. I think he can drop, like, eight F-bombs per episode, or something like that — eight to ten, something like that — and I think there's variations depending on what time it airs."

I don't watch Syfy very often, so I don't know if they're letting F-bombs reach the air on a regular basis these days, but I am very surprised to hear that Chucky will be able to curse that much, if he feels like it, in every episode. Locke & Key showrunner Meredith Averill was also on the panel and revealed that Netflix would only allow that show to have two "F*ck"s per season.

Mancini has said that "Chucky has a different goal in the TV show than he's ever had before", a goal that is "designed to evoke something that's going on in the zeitgeist today." The show has the following synopsis: 

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Jennifer Tilly is believed to be in the cast of the series.
