Cult of Chucky will have a surreal The Shining-like feel

We let you guys know a week ago that Don Mancini's new CHILD'S PLAY flick had wrapped picture. Since then news has been quiet on the seventh sequel in the CHUCKY series. Until today, that is.

Below you will find bits and pieces of Don Mancini talking to CBC about CULT OF CHUCKY.

In the interview, he goes into a whole host of fun topics such as the new film's "The Shining-like feel", along with the film being surreal and dreamlike, his thoughts on sequels in general, and his take on whether or not Chucky supports Donald Trump.

Yeah, it is a crazy, fun interview. Check it out below!

Don Mancini on CULT OF CHUCKY:

I wrote it with snow in mind. We shot all night outside for one sequence, and we got snowed out with a blizzard. We had to shut down for safety reasons. Our zoom lens also froze. But the snow was great — that really paid off. It gave the film a Shining-like feel."

Mancini on CULT OF CHUCKY being "Chucky on drugs":

In Cult of Chucky, we're doing a mental institution movie. There will be dream sequences and lots of surrealism. This will be Chucky on drugs."

Mancini on sequels:

To me, I don't know why people would take the approach of doing the same things with a sequel. Sequels offer the opportunity to subvert expectations. All good storytelling is about good surprises. Sequels, by their very nature, bring baggage — how can I subvert them in a fun way?"

Mancini on Chucky and Trump:

Some of them had photos of the two of them side by side, with the tagline 'SEPARATED AT BIRTH.' I had joked that Chucky was a Republican who probably supported George W. Bush — but Trump? Chucky is a crook and a con artist, and I think he'd be able to see through Trump in an instant. I don't think Chucky would support Trump, not at all."

Mancini on if Chucky's classic one-liners will return:

I'm not going to abandon the secret sauce!"

Nice. All in all a cool interview and a bunch of evocative new info to buzz about. I was already looking forward to CULT OF CHUCKY but now I'm counting down the days until it's scheduled "Halloween" release date!

CULT OF CHUCKY synopsis:

Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic "tool" to facilitate his patients' group sessions - an all-too-familiar "Good Guy" doll with an innocently smiling face - a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn't crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky's now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child's Play, races to Nica's aid. But to save her he'll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky's long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.

CULT OF CHUCKY is written and directed by Don Mancini and stars Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Grace Lynn Kung, Michael Therriault, Zak Santiago, Summer H. Howell, and, of course, Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky!

CULT OF CHUCKY is set to hit this Halloween.

SEED OF CHUCKY co-star Hannah Spearritt

Extra Tidbit: I love that Mancini keeps switching up subgenres for his sequels.
