Drafthouse Films will release Why Don’t You Play In Hell next year

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Back in April, we brought along the surreal teaser for Sono Sion’s WHY DON’T YOU PLAY IN HELL? (watch it again below), which looked just wonderful, but we had no idea when we might get a look at the thing here in the states. (It comes out on September 28th in Japan.) Thankfully, good news comes from Screen Daily, which tells us that Drafthouse Films has picked up the action-thriller and plans to release it sometime in 2014. (No specific date has been given.)

Why Don’t You Play In Hell? follows the collusion between an amateur production crew and a Yakuza boss as they attempt to make a movie amid the decade-long war between two rival crime lords.

Watch the video below and tell me this doesn’t look like a bizarre blast. How can it not be when it comes from the demented director of SUICIDE CLUB and COLD FISH?
