Back in May we learned that the indie alien invasion flick SKYLINE would be getting a sequel in the form of Liam O'Donnell's BEYOND SKYLINE, which officially entered pre-production last month with location scouting underway. Now we're learning a little more about the film, including who we can expect to see battling the alien menace onscreen.

Latino Review is sharing that THE PURGE: ANARCHY star and all-around badass Frank Grillo is circling the lead role in BEYOND SKYLINE, and that the film itself will be some sort of reboot, as supposedly the sequel's storyline takes place at the same time the first film did.

Writer and producer of the 2010 film, Liam O’Donnell, will be helming BEYOND SKYLINE, with the Brothers Strause (Greg & Colin) handling producer duties. O'Donnell is teaming with his co-writer from the original SKYLINE, Joshua Cordes, on script duties for the sequel.

The original film, directed by the Brothers Strause, grossed $78.6 million worldwide on a $10 million budget, so it's not surprising that a sequel is coming our way. SKYLINE garnered mostly negative reviews from critics, and audiences were infuriated by its cliffhanger ending. If BEYOND SKYLINE is taking place during the same time as the original film, could that mean we still won't see the resolution of the storyline of the first film? Time will tell.

More on BEYOND SKYLINE as we hear it.
