Gordon Hemingway & The Realm of Cthulhu eyes Jonathan Majors for lead role

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A couple days ago, we reported on the upcoming Lovecraftian supernatural horror film Gordon Hemingway & the Realm of Cthulhu for Netflix, helmed by director Stefon Bristol (See You Yesterday) and produced by Spike Lee! Now Variety reports that none other than Lovecraft Country'Jonathan Majors is in talks for the lead role! Which would be great, as he's an amazing actor and presence!

Meanwhile, here's the official synopsis:

Gordon Hemingway & the Realm of Cthulhu is set in East Africa in 1928 and centers on Gordon Hemingway, a roguish Black American gunslinger, who teams up with the elite warrior Princess Zenebe of Ethiopia to rescue the country’s kidnapped regent from an ancient evil.

Now, no official start or release date as of yet, but we'll definitely keep you posted!

And, as I said in the previous report, I'm someone who is fascinated by Lovecraft's ideas and concepts – but repulsed by his (even for his time) repugnant prejudices – it's awesome seeing more diverse voices take those evergreen horror concepts and do something unique and challenging with them (ala HBO's recent Lovecraft Country). So I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this project for sure.
