Has Amityville: The Awakening been pulled?

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Another scrap has fallen off the ceaselessly grinding rumor mill around AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING. Currently, Dread Central is reporting that the Weinsteins have officially cancelled the film's upcoming April 1st release. Maybe this is all just an elaborate April Fool's joke?

It's a shame if this rumor comes to fruition, because as frustrating as the idea of a fourteenth AMITYVILLE film is, the trailers at least made it look like a generically efficient flick rather than a low budget monstrosity. Not to mention, that cast ain't messing around. Even if it ends up sucking, it deserves a shot. As soon as any sort of official announcement is made, you'll be the first to know!

The plot was:

Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

The film was directed by Franck Khalfoun and stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Kurtwood Smith, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann, and Jennifer Morrison.
