Hellraiser TV Series coming from IT producer!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Clive Barker's HELLRAISER is headed to the small screen for the first time ever from IT producer Roy Lee and READY PLAYER ONE producer Dan Farah. The producers have joined forces with producer-rightsholders Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman and Eric Gardner, who have controlled the TV rights since New World was sold in 1989. The feature rights to the series are controlled by Spyglass.

The intention is to use the mythology established in the movie franchise and the Clive Barker novella The Hellbound Heart as a launch pad for a new series that could be an anthology, or a more traditional narrative. The producers are underway with a search for a writer-showrunner, before setting it at a network or streaming platform.

The original Clive Barker film followed:

Sexual deviant Frank (Sean Chapman) inadvertently opens a portal to hell when he tinkers with a box he bought while abroad. The act unleashes gruesome beings called Cenobites, who tear Frank's body apart. When Frank's brother (Andrew Robinson) and his wife, Julia (Clare Higgins), move into Frank's old house, they accidentally bring what is left of Frank back to life. Frank then convinces Julia, his one-time lover, to lure men back to the house so he can use their blood to reconstruct himself.

HELLRAISER was written and directed by Clive Barker and produced by Christopher Figg based on The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. Andrew Robinson as Larry Cotton, Clare Higgins as Julia Cotton, Ashley Laurence as Kirsty Cotton, Sean Chapman as Frank Cotton, Robert Hines as Steve, Doug Bradley as Lead Cenobite, Nicholas Vince as Chattering Cenobite, Simon Bamford as Butterball Cenobite, Grace Kirby as Female Cenobite, and Oliver Smith as "Skinless" Frank / Frank the Monster. The movie features music by Christopher Young, cinematography by Robin Vidgeon, and editing by Richard Marden and Tony Randel. Entertainment Film Distributors released the film into theaters in London back on September 10, 1987.
