Images give a look at the Godzilla of Godzilla Resurgence

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

A sequel to the 2014 American GODZILLA is still two years away, but Toho Studios is bringing their version of the King of the Monsters back to screens this summer, with GODZILLA RESURGENCE set to reach theatres in Japan on July 29th.

So far, our only glimpse of what Godzilla will be looking like in the 29th Toho GODZILLA film has come from a profile shot on the poster, which doesn't give away a lot but still shows that the monster will be looking a bit different than usual. Now a few low-res pictures of the suit have leaked online, images which confirm that the RESURGENCE version of Godzilla has quite an odd appearance. Multiple rows of jagged teeth, red wounds (?) all over his body, a withered arm… Directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi have certainly taken a unique approach to the icon.

Standing at about 389 feet tall, the Godzilla of GODZILLA RESURGENCE will be the tallest version of the character we've ever seen, besting the 2014 American Godzilla by 34 feet. He is being brought to life for the film through the use of puppetry, animatronics, three suit operators, and digital enhancements.

Audiences in Japan have just over six months to wait before they'll get to see what Anno and Higuchi have done with Godzilla, and I'm hoping the wait won't be much longer for those of us outside of Japan.
