Jim Carrey replaces Jack Nicholson in a few scenes from The Shining

The Shining Jim Carrey Jack Nicholson

Two weeks ago, we shared a video in which YouTuber Crtl Shift Face used their DeepFake skills to replace the face of Jack Nicholson with the face of Jim Carrey in the "You're breaking my concentration" scene from director Stanley Kubrick's classic Stephen King adaptation THE SHINING. The end of that video said it was "to be continued", and Crtl Shift Face certainly did continue their "What if Jim Carrey starred in THE SHINING?" experiment.

Carrey's face replaces Nicholson's in three more DeepFake videos embedded below. In these clips you get to see Carrey play out my favorite scene from the film ("Give me the bat"), deliver the famous "Here's Johnny!" line, and finally chase little Danny Torrance through the snow-coated hedge maze.

Ctrl Shift Face did some incredible work on these videos, which are frequently convincing. I had never wondered what it would look like if Carrey starred in THE SHINING, but now I know, and it looks pretty good. Of course, his performance is aided greatly by the fact that the line deliveries are still Nicholson's.

DeepFake is a concerning technology, but videos like these are a fun way to use it.
