Joey King horror flick Wish Upon gets a new trailer

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

I don't know what to make of the upcoming teen horror flick WISH UPON. I mean it co-stars Sherilyn Fenn from TWIN PEAKS so that's pretty cool, but from all the promo materials I have seen thus far, the film looks like a feature-length episode of R.L. Stine's THE HAUNTING HOUR.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing… But I just don't think I'm going to be forking over my $12 and change to see the flick when it hits. An R-rating could help it out in my eyes, but what are the chances of that happening?

As is, we have a new trailer to show you today, as well as a poster. None of which is making me jump for anything resembling joy. Again, you never know, this flick could end up being on the best of 2017 list!

WISH UPON synopsis:

Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old CLARE SHANNON (Joey King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father JONATHAN (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path.

WISH UPON is directed by John R. Leonetti from a script by Barbara Marshall and stars Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, Mitchell Slaggert, Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Kevin Hanchard, Sherilyn Fenn, and Elisabeth Röhm (see below).

WISH UPON hits theaters July 14th.
