Katie Aselton's Black Rock bought at Sundance by LD Entertainment

We first told you about BLACK ROCK all the way back in May of last year, when the project was announced at the Cannes Film Festival. The hot-girls-in-the-wild flick sounded like a surefire thing then, and today it becomes clear that a distributor thinks so too, as BLACK ROCK was just acquired by LD Entertainment at Sundance.

The North American deal was reached for BLACK ROCK in the early morning after its Worldwide Premiere. The deal was negotiated by Josh Braun at Submarine with LD Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell, David Dinerstein, Chad Reineke and Michael Zelman.

The film, which stars Kate Bosworth, Lake Bell and co-writer/director Katie Aselton, follows what happens when three childhood friends meet for a weekend getaway on an isolated island and discover that they have company.

“We are super excited to be working with Mickey, David and the entire team at LD Distribution on the theatrical release of BLACK ROCK,” Aselton said. “Their enthusiasm for the film was overwhelming and we look forward to collaborating with them to share the film with audiences everywhere.”

BLACK ROCK is apparently in the vein of great survival thrillers like DELIVERANCE, CAPE FEAR and THE RIVER WILD, so that genre combined with three hotties is more than enough to convince me it's worth a look. No release date has been announced yet.
