Marvel: Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali is ‘coming together’

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

During the Disney Investor Day event last week, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had a lot of superhero-related news to bring to the world. In a twenty-minute presentation, he discussed upcoming projects involving the likes of Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Thor, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, The Falcon, The Winter Soldier, Loki, Moon Knight, Guardians of the Galaxy, War Machine, Ironheart, Nick Fury, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Shang-Chi, Spider-Man, The Eternals, and even the Fantastic Four… and in the midst of all that, Feige took a moment to give an update on the status of Marvel's Blade reboot that was announced back in July of 2019.

Just a couple months ago, we heard that writers hadn't even been hired for Blade yet. Thankfully, it sounds like the project is starting to make some progress now. Feige said,

As we announced at Comic-Con last year, we're moving ahead with Blade, starring Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali. The development and storylines are coming together, and we'll have announcements very, very soon."

Ali recently revealed that he pursued the role of Blade and had a hand in the decision to make the reboot a feature film. Before Ali got involved, Marvel was thinking the reboot should be a television series. (Like many of the projects Feige discussed during his presentation.)

The Marvel release schedule looks pretty full through 2021 and 2022, so I don't think we'll be seeing Blade until 2023 at the earliest.
