Mortal Kombat reboot has its release date pushed back a week

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So this is a major bummer! But it seems that the upcoming R-rated Mortal Kombat reboot will be pushed back a week, now instead getting over here to select theaters and HBO Max April 23rd! Not toasty! Not toasty at all!

Here's what the article says about the move, which makes some sense (even if it sucks that I have to wait another week to see it):

The postponement comes the day before Warner Bros. plans to release another tentpole, “Godzilla vs. Kong.” Film exhibitors have been optimistic about the arrival of the big-budget clash of the titans, which has already done notable business overseas. “Godzilla vs. Kong” has made $121 million at the international box office to date. It’s done especially well in China, generating $70 million on opening weekend. By pushing “Mortal Kombat,” the studio hopes to space out the potential blockbusters in an effort to avoid cannibalizing ticket sales.

Meanwhile, here's the official synopsis:

A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld in a inter-dimensional fighting tournament that occurs once in a generation. Appearances to be made by Shang Tsung, Goro, Jax Briggs, Sonya Blade, Kano, Scorpion and more fan favorites!

Anyway, Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid and stars Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim, Josh Lawson, Jessica McNamee, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

So what do you guys think? Still looking forward to the film? Either way, sound off below!
