NBC’s Hannibal finds The Tooth Fairy: Richard Armitage

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Big casting news for the third season of “Hannibal”: Richard Armitage (THE HOBBIT, INTO THE STORM) has been cast as Francis Dolarhyde, better known as The Tooth Fairy. Any horror fan worth his or her salt knows the infamous character, who was portrayed by both Tom Noonan (in Michael Mann’s MANHUNTER) and Ralph Fiennes (in Brett Ratner’s RED DRAGON).

TV Line reports Armitage is only signed for six episodes. Will it be the front six or back six is the question.

If you need a refresher on the character, I’ll let Wikipedia explain:

Dolarhyde is a serial killer who murders entire families. He is nicknamed “The Tooth Fairy” due to his tendency to bite his victims’ bodies, the uncommon size and sharpness of his teeth and other apparent oral fixations. He refers to his other self as “The Great Red Dragon” after William Blake’s painting The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with the Sun.[3] Dolarhyde is diagnosable with Schizoid personality disorder with strong antisocial and narcissistic features.

“Hannibal” returns to NBC later this year.
