Filming is currently underway on the first season of a dark, horrific reboot of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch television series that's coming to us from Netflix. We've been watching this project be assembled piece by piece for a while now, and another piece has just been slotted into place: actor Richard Coyle has joined the cast of the show and will be taking on a key role. A role that sounds to be a villainous one.

Said to be tonally in the vein of ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE EXORCIST, this series (which might be called Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) finds Archie Comics' teenage witch

wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal, while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Sabrina Spellman is described as an empowered young woman — half-human, half-witch — who is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.

Kiernan Shipka is playing Sabrina, and the supporting cast includes Miranda Otto as her disciplinarian aunt Zelda, Lucy Davis as her nurturing aunt Hilda, Jaz Sinclair as her best friend Rosalind Walker, Chance Perdomo as her warlock cousin Ambrose, and Michelle Gomez as her favorite teacher Mary Wardell, who becomes possessed by the devil's handmaiden Madam Satan.

Richard Coyle's role is that of Father Blackwood, "High Priest of the Church of Night and Dean of the Academy of the Unseen Arts. Ruthless and ambitious, Blackwood hides a terrifying dark agenda that will put him in direct conflict with Sabrina and other members of the coven."

In 20 years of screen acting, Coyle has racked up more than 50 credits, including a lead role in the fun Irish creature feature GRABBERS.

Netflix gave a two season, 20 episode order to the Sabrina show, and the seasons are being shot back-to-back. The first 10 episodes are being filmed from February to June, then in June filming on the second season will began and is set to last until October.
