Strong bloody violence & more earns The Predator an R rating

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Thank God! We have been hearing promises for months now that Shane Black and Fred Dekker's THE PREDATOR was going to be an R-rated film, but today we have confirmation via the MPAA. Yes, the powers that be have officially rated the reboot R for "strong bloody violence, language throughout, and crude sexual references."

Again, thank the lord as I was worried there for a bit that this new PREDATOR film might go the way of Sony's upcoming VENOM flick starring Tom Hardy. That movie was recently rumored to (possibly) be editing down its R-rated content to a more family-friendly PG-13. Long live R-rated PREDATOR movies!

The film stars Boyd Holbrook, Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Alfie Allen, Augusto Aguilera, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, and Jake Busey. Busey is playing the son of the character his father Gary played in PREDATOR 2.

Written by Black and his THE MONSTER SQUAD collaborator Fred Dekker, THE PREDATOR has the following synopsis:

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

The film is set to reach theatres on September 14th.
