Subspecies 5 is first on Full Moon’s post-pandemic schedule

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Fourteen months ago, Full Moon announced that they were going to be conducting a "bold new experiment in interactive feature filmmaking". This was their Deadly Ten project, where they were going to produce ten feature films back-to-back and have them all ready to premiere on the Full Moon Features channel and app (see FullMoonFeatures.com) on February 14th of this year. Every minute of the production of these films would be streaming live online at the Deadly Ten website.

Things haven't gone quite as planned. So far just four of the Deadly Ten films have been made – WEEDJIES! HALLOWEED NIGHT, NECROPOLIS: LEGION, FEMALIEN: COSMIC CRUSH, and BLADE: THE IRON CROSS. But at least they've been making progress!

Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic has been part of the issue. Full Moon has sent out the following update to Deadly Ten subscribers:

On behalf of the Full Moon family, we sincerely hope your are coping with the ever-changing landscape of our current situation. And we hope that watching our weird movies has helped you alleviate some tension in some way!

No doubt you've been wondering about the Deadly Ten film slate and how the pandemic and its restrictions have affected our production progress. Indeed, the lockdowns and enforced social distancing practices had effectively halted work on the next Deadly Ten film,  SUBSPECIES V, which was set to go to camera in March in Eastern Europe. During this time, we decided to find novel new ways to make movies and our experiments yielded two features: CORONA ZOMBIES and its followup, BARBIE & KENDRA SAVE THE TIGER KING, both of which seemed to hit at the right time and were wildly successful.

But now, it's time to dive back into the Deadly Ten universe! The third D10 film BLADE: THE IRON CROSS is complete and will have its WORLD PREMIERE on Full Moon Features beginning June 26th. A date for its run on Amazon Prime will be announced soon. Following that, the sexy sci-fi comedy FEMALIEN: COSMIC CRUSH will rear its rear. Later this Summer, expect D10 films NECROPOLIS: LEGION and WEEDJIES! to hit DVD.  And then, if the COVID-19 crisis begins to repair, we will be going to camera on SUBSPECIES V!

The Deadly Ten will not be stopped! Stick with us as we navigate this new world and get back to doing what Full Moon does best: making deliriously cool and crazy motion picture entertainment!

Set to be directed by Ted Nicolaou, who directed all of the previous films in the SUBSPECIES series as well as the spin-off VAMPIRE JOURNALS, SUBSPECIES V: BLOOD RISE has the following synopsis:

Spanning 500 years in the life of the vampire Radu Vladislas, this long-anticipated prequel to the SUBSPECIES series chronicles Radu’s descent from a noble warrior for the Church to a depraved creature of the night. Stolen by crusaders on the night of his birth, he has no knowledge of his bloodline: his mother a demon; father a vampire. Trained and exploited by a brotherhood of mystic monks to slay all enemies of the church, fate brings him back one night to the castle of his father, armed with the monster-slaying Sword of Laertes, to destroy the vampire Vladislas and reclaim a holy relic: the Bloodstone. The events of that night turn Radu from a noble man into a vampire with no master, setting him on a centuries-long quest for sustenance, for companionship, for the treacherous one who stole him from the sun, and for the Bloodstone he hopes will bring him peace.

Some films, like the AVATAR and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE sequels, have figured out a way to get back into production soon, so hopefully Full Moon won't have to wait much longer before they can safely get back to work on Deadly Ten films as well. I'm really looking forward to getting a new SUBSPECIES sequel from Nicolaou.
