The Evil Dead remake finds its male lead: Shiloh Fernandez; plus first BTS shot!

A few months ago, Fede Alvarez’s THE EVIL DEAD nabbed its female lead, Lily Collins, only to have her drop out one month later. While the search continues for the horror movie’s leading lady, the male lead has been obtained.

Variety reports that Shiloh Fernandez (pictured right) will do battle with demons in the remake of Sam Raimi’s 1982 classic. (And no, he’s not Ash. There is no Ash.) Fernandez will most likely be recognized by horror fans for his work in the creepy DEADGIRL. Teenage girls will remember him from Catherine Hardwicke’s RED RIDING HOOD.

In addition, Fede Alvarez posted the picture below to his Twitter account, calling it “the path to hell”. Guess we can assume this foreboding road leads to the cabin; it’s a slightly different landscape than the rickety woods in Raimi’s original, and I don’t mind that a bit. In fact, I think it looks terrific.

Produced by Sony Pictures, FilmDistrict and Ghost House Pictures, THE EVIL DEAD deals with five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Shooting on THE EVIL DEAD is set to kick off later this year in New Zealand. It has an APRIL12, 2013 release date set.
