Imagi goes Fluorescent

Some interesting news today from Variety concerning Imagi Animation Studios. Imagi is taking a chance and jumping into something completely original, seeing how some of their other works include TMNT and the upcoming GATCHAMAN and ASTROBOY.

Variety is reporting that Imagi have picked up the rights to FLUORESCENT BLACK. They explain it as a futuristic actioner that’s set in Singapore and the Malaysian peninsula. Not much to go off of there. A cool thing to note is that not only will Imagi be bringing us the FLUORESCENT BLACK movie, but they’re also working on a graphic novel to go with it.

Matt Wilson wrote the script for the film and will be writing the text for the graphic novel, with Nathan Fox illustrating. The novel is slated for a mid-2008 release. It’s also already been announced that the graphic novel will be a feature on the cover of the July edition of Heavy Metal magazine. Imagi VP of development Galen Walker had the following to say:

“We believe this project has the potential to become a huge cult phenomenon.”

Now I’m a big fan of TMNT, and after reading Walker’s statement I’ll be looking forward to this one. Hopefully we find out more on the plot soon. No word yet on production for the movie.
