Johnny’s back, and he’s ready for another bloodbath… after many extended walks through the woods. IFC has dropped the first teaser trailer for In a Violent Nature 2, which finds Johnny going full Voorhees as he stalks a new group of victims at summer camp. Check it out above!

In just 60 seconds, the sequel does look like it will feature more action than the first movie. The official logline reads: “In A Violent Nature 2, Johnny’s violent rampage leads him to a summer camp just as a young, outcast camper is forced to spend the night with his counselor sister and her friends at their annual end-of-season party.

Ry Barrett is back as Johnny, and he’s joined by Lucas Nguyen, Olivia Scriven, Laurie Babin, Fionn Laird, Donald MacLean Jr., and Evan Marsh.

Nathaniel Wilson, who was the first assistant director on the original movie, is stepping up to direct the follow-up. “With this sequel, fans can expect an exponential increase of the ol’ ultraviolence with a distinct hook, but one that still collides with storied slasher traditions,” said producer Peter Kuplowsky. Original director Chris Nash returns to write the script, and produces alongside Kuplowsky, Shannon Hanmer, and Michael James Regan.

The First Movie was Divisive

The first movie was a slow burn, with many scenes of the killer slowly stalking his victims throughout the woods. Sure, some of the kills, particularly that gruesome Yoga death, were highly memorable, but it wasn’t enough for some members of the audience. Our own Tyler Nichols wasn’t a big fan.

In A Violent Nature is easily the most disappointed I’ve been with a horror film in quite some time,” Nichols wrote in his review. “As a massive slasher fan, I had very high expectations. The idea of deconstructing the genre and elevating it is a lifelong dream for most fans. Or heck, even simplifying it and distilling it down to its essence could have also worked. Yet this does none of that. It simply takes a very bland slasher script, and gives it some Gus Van Sant camerawork and editing. And when that results in 70% of the movie just being a guy walking for long periods; it ultimately feels pointless.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.
