Indiana Jones 5: new images revealed

UPDATE: More Indiana Jones 5 photos from Empire Magazine’s new preview issue are making the rounds today, with all new images showing Indy in action. Here are the pics – all of which look pretty awesome. Is a new trailer finally coming out soon? We’ll have to wait and see but I fully expect we’ll see one, possibly before the week is out.

Original Post: A new Indiana Jones 5 image focusing on Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s Helena is making the rounds, giving us the best view of Indy’s goddaughter that we’ve had so far. According to the film’s director, James Mangold, Helena is a mysterious woman modeled after femme fatales of the early 20th century.

Indiana Jones 5, set in 1969 during the hustle and bustle of the Space Race, finds Indy exposing Nazi sympathizers planted in America’s space program. While Waller-Bridge’s Helena remains a mystery, we’ve learned she’ll play a significant role in the adventure ahead, including several of the film’s intense action sequences and heightened moments of derring-do.

According to Empire, the opening of Indiana Jones 5 features a de-aged Harrison Ford. “I wanted the chance to dive into this kind of full-on George-and-Steven old picture and give the audience an adrenaline blast,” Mangold explained. Mangold has revealed that the new adventure aims to recapture the spirit of the original film with a Last Crusade-type flashback at the beginning, except this time, it will flashback to Raiders-era Indy, complete with a de-aged Harrison Ford. So, for the opening sequence, Indy finds himself in a castle occupied by Nazis, set in 1944. “And then we fall out, and you find yourself in 1969. So that the audience doesn’t experience the change between the ’40s and ’60s as an intellectual conceit, but literally experiences the buccaneering spirit of those early days… and then the beginning of now.”

How significant do you think Helena will be to the future of the Indiana Jones franchise? Is she next in line to wear the fedora? Is she secretly a Nazi sympathizer? Will Indy need to foil the evil plan of his own goddaughter? With much of the plot remaining a mystery, who’s to say? Regardless of how things shake out, Indiana Jones 5 is bound to be a smash at the box office when the film opens in cinemas on June 30, 2023.
