It’s been nearly fifteen years since Harrison Ford last donned the fedora of Indiana Jones. While I doubt many fans would count Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as their favourite of the franchise, it showed that Ford still had that trademark Indy charm. Disney got the ball rolling on a sequel after they acquired Lucasfilm, but multiple delays pushed the project back again and again. Lucasfilm screened a new teaser trailer for Indiana Jones 5 at the D23 Expo, but sadly, it doesn’t seem like it will be released online… at least for now. The title also wasn’t revealed, so we’ll have to wait a little longer for that.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy welcomed director James Mangold and stars Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge to the stage. After screening a teaser for the movie, an emotional Harrison Ford said that it has a “really human story to tell” but will also “kick your ass.” He added that this will be his last Indy movie, saying that he “won’t fall down for us again!

By the sounds of things, the Indiana Jones 5 teaser was pretty action-packed, with underwater scenes, carts racing down streets, and people fighting on the top of a train, as well as the return of John Rhys-Davies as Sallah. The teaser came to an end with a scene involving Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character in which Indy wields his whip in front of a bunch of bad guys… who quickly take out their guns at the hero.

Here’s our official footage reaction from D23:

In addition to Harrison Ford, the Indiana Jones sequel also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas, and Shaunette Renée Wilson. While Steven Spielberg had been expected to return to direct Indiana Jones 5, he stepped down in 2020, saying he wanted to “pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story.” James Mangold stepped in to replace Spielberg as director, and he also co-wrote the script with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.

Indiana Jones 5 will be released on June 30, 2023.
